  • The Getting-it-Built workshop in Auburn was inspiring! Next step - bringing Charles Durrett to Port Townsend for a public presentation on cohousing - either January or February.

Living Sustainably in Community
Imagine living in a neighborhood that's welcoming, safe and eco-friendly.
Private homes with generous common facilites.
Where people know and care about each other in a real village setting.

Newt Crossing Community is a forming, intergenerational cohousing community.
We highly recommend reading: Creating Cohousing; Building Sustainable Communities by McCamant and Durrett

Project Status
  • We have the land (map). 17 acres of rural wooded area about 5 miles from downtown Port Townsend, WA.
  • The property currently has two houses, and a building that could be converted into a center house.
  • We hope to build six more houses (depending on county permits) which will give us a community of eight residences and a common house.
  • Preliminary budgeting indicates we should be able to keep home costs to average new home prices in this area.
  • The pandemic forced our meetings onto Zoom, now it is time to host gatherings (distanced and outside) on the land.
  • We plan to have a re-kickoff gathering on October 9, 1pm - 3pm, let us know if you are interested in attending.
  • We hope to schedule a Getting it Built workshop in the next few months, there will be a sign-up sheet at the re-kickoff. This will give us a more realistic assessment of costs and timeline.
  • Please see our about page for more information about us
